Road cycling tour to Bern

Do you need fresh air before spending time at Cycle Summit? You are not afraid of challenging road cycling tours? You want to see hidden corners of Switzerland? Then you should join this self-guided road cycling tour from Geneva to Bern. The trip will take you to the crests and valleys of Jura. The region is scarcely populated, has little traffic and is a perfect spot for a road cycling adventure.

Thursday, October 10th: Geneva
  • Arrival in Geneva and dinner all together 
  • time to explore the city’s attractions, such as Lake Geneva, the Jet d’Eau fountain, and the Old Town.
Friday, October 11th: Yverdon-les-Bains
  • After leaving Geneva cycling towards Jura
  • Challenging climb up to Col de Marchairuz enjoying marvellous views
  • After a steep descend you will follow the road passing beautiful lakes
  • Arrival in Yverdon-les-Bains known for its thermal baths and having dinner
Saturday, October 12th: Bern
  • After breakfast begins the tour with a ride on the shore of Lac de Neuchâtel
  • Cycling along the “Zihlkanal” to Lake Bielersee and arrival in Bern
  • Quiet roads take you to the city centre of Switzerland’s capital

Hidden gems, some cows, narrow streets and you

In less than 10 minutes, this guided tour takes you out of Bern’s UNESCO old town into unspoilt nature. On the way to the famous Emmental valley, the route is lined with charming villages, typical farms and wide panoramic views of the Bernese Alps. Small farm shops and traditional restaurants provide a rich culinary offering and the necessary refreshments along the way. Overnight stays are in authentic, beautiful country inns and in the 800-year-old castle «Schloss Burgdorf». Come along and discover the Bernese e-bike love!

Tuesday, October 15th: Leave the city behind
  • Right after the Cycle Summit, we ride our e-bikes towards the lovely Emmental.
  • Small roads through pretty villages.
  • Dinner and overnight stay in the cosy Hotel Village Appenberg. The best of the region’s vegetables, fruit, meat, cheese, milk and bread come from personally known suppliers in the immediate neighbourhood.
Wednesday, October 16th: Let’s discover the region of Emmental
  • After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, the journey continues with a not too long route, so we have plenty of time to learn more about the region and the lovely small village Langnau.
  • The beautiful hilly landscape around Langnau in Emmental is characterised by lush meadows, quiet forests and breathtaking views of the tops of the Bernese Alps and the Jura mountains.
Thursday, October 17th: Let’s discover the region of Emmental
  • Let’s start the day with a vitalising breakfast for some hills and valleys.
  • Today’s tour takes us through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Switzerland – yes, really ;-). And we visit the famous Emmental show diary.
  • Another highlight of the day? The overnight stay in the new hostel in the 800-year-old Burgdorf Castle.
  • Nestled in a bend in the river Emme, the Zähringer town of Burgdorf is also known as the “gateway to the Emmental”. Burgdorf is best known for its castle, which with its positioning on a hill can be seen from far away.
Friday, October 18th: Heading back to Bern
  • Well rested, we continue on the last stage today.
  • Don’t be sad – today we will discover some more beautiful spots in this hilly paradise.
  • Cows, swiss villages and even more small roads await you on todays route
Saturday, October 19th: Bern (OPTIONAL)

Would you like to see more?

  • On this 43-kilometre-long route around the Friensiberg high plateau, cyclists are accompanied by wonderful views of the Seeland, the city of Bern and the Bernese Alps.
  • The highlight on this route, the platform on the 45-metre-high Chutzenturm, offers the very best views.

This guided tour leads across fields and along quiet forest roads up into the unspoilt Alpine foothills of the Nature Park. Resting and restoring your strength is vital when out and about. Therefore, we are planning to show you some authentic local dishes.

Tuesday, October 15th: Off to the Nature Park Gantrisch!
  • Right after the Cycle Summit, we’re heading to Nature Park Gantrisch.
  • Forests, canyons and the unique Gantrisch range characterise the landscape in the Gantrisch Regional Nature Park. The park is also characterised by a low level of light pollution, allowing visitors to enjoy magical views of the stars – in short, a wonderful landscape to slow down. And with over 300 kilometres of gravel bike tours, the region is a true gravel bike paradise.
  • After a sporty afternoon on the saddle, we relax in the small village of Riggisberg.
Wednesday, October 16th: Another day – another ride!
  • Let the day begin with a good breakfast and coffee.
  • The route has various steep ramps, which are compensated for by wonderful views of the Bernese Alps, the Gantrisch region and the Jura.
  • Today’s destination? The Schwarzsee! The small lake is located in the Fribourg Pre-Alps and is known for its unspoilt nature. The wild and romantic natural scenery around the mountain lake and an alpine valley formed by glaciers, are the jewels of the region.
Friday, October 17th: And the gravel adventure continues
  • Today we set off on the last stage back to Schwarzenburg.
  • The route runs mostly along hilly side roads, forest paths and past farms and small villages.
  • There might be the chance to stop by the local beer brewery… (tbd)

  • Begin the day with Col de la Croix (1778 meters), a local favorite climb, Col de la Croix was part of the Tour de France route in 2022
  • Admire Col du Pillon and Massif des Diablerets from the summit of Col de la Croix
  • Continue to Leysin, through mountain roads away from traffic offered from Vaud Alps ideal for road cyclists passionate about mountainss 
  • Leysin is hosting the queen stage of Tour de Romandie in 2024
  • Late lunch after the arrival in Leysin, afterwards cultural program
  • Dinner at the Hôtel Central Résidence

  • Meet your Tour Guide at the Tourist Information at the train main station. Together you will collect the E-Bikes from Europaallee
  • Starting the bike tour through lively Zurich
  • You will see Zurich-West quarter with former industrial halls turned into restaurants, cafes, and galleries
  • Later you will climb effortless to Rigiblick funicular for a panoramic view of downtown Zurich
  • Descent through residential quarters to the lake, passing main sights like the University and Grossmünster
  • The route continues along the picturesque shores of Lake Zurich to Enge harbour and on safe cycle paths back to the starting point on Europaallee

Wednesday, October 16th: Rhine Falls
  • With bikes ready and spirits high, you leave the busy streets of zurich and set course towards the natural marvel of the Rhine Falls
  • Cycling through quiet paths in the Swiss countryside and arrival at the majestic Rhine Falls, experiencing the thunderous roar of the cascading water
  • Admiring the grandeur of one of Europe’s most spectacular waterfalls the lunch will be served along the way
  • Continuing the journey towards Schaffhausen after leaving the Rhine Falls behind. Schaffhausen is a charming town of with a picturesque medieval old town
  • Leaving bikes at the train station of Schaffhausen and take the train back to Zurich

Thursday, October 17th: Leysin
  • Cycling along the north-eastern shore of Lake Zurich, known as the “Gold Coast” admiring exclusive villas, gardens, and nature reserves along the way
  • Enjoying the tranquility of quiet side roads away from the lively lakefront observing vineyards on the lake banks and leisurely floating boats during the summer
  • Exploring the charming old town center of Rapperswil, a real gem
