In 2023 CycleSummit came to Riolo Terme, a spa town in the hills between Imola and Faenza, crowned by its medieval fortress. Emilia-Romagna – home of Marco Pantani, the Giro d’Italia and the “Food Valley of Italy” – welcomed a record number of participants to the Grand Hotel Terme.

Four days with a ride through the vineyards to the Imola racetrack, wine tasting at Tenuta Masselina, a dinner inside the Rocca di Riolo, an evening at Casale il Pino – and two business days full of 1:1 meetings, with no pre-scheduled appointments and no time pressure.

Arrival at the Grand Hotel Terme

Participants arrived via Bologna and Castel Bolognese, checked in, had their bikes fitted by the team of Bikesplus / Cycle Europe and met for a welcome drink and the first dinner at the Grand Hotel Terme.

Cycling to the Imola racetrack

After the welcome presentation and the introduction of all participants, partners and the Riolo Terme Cycling Hub, groups of different levels set off through the hills – the long and hilly tour with a coffee break close to the Imola racetrack, the short tour with a guided walk through the vineyards.

Sunday lunch

Wine tasting at Tenuta Masselina

All groups met at the Tenuta Masselina winery near Castel Bolognese for a wine tasting and a light lunch among the vineyards, before returning to Riolo Terme in the afternoon.

Sunday evening

Dinner in the Rocca di Riolo

After the welcome presentation of the host region Emilia-Romagna and the Imola Faenza Tourism Company in the Sala Murri, Imola Faenza and Riolo Terme invited everyone to dinner inside the medieval fortress “La Rocca”.

Business day 1 and Casale il Pino

The first business day filled the Grand Hotel Terme with 1:1 meetings between tour operators, destinations and partners, with a light lunch buffet in the Sala Murri. In the evening buses took the group to Casale il Pino for dinner under the trees and an afterhour back at the hotel bar.

Business day 2 and FamTrips

The second business day continued the meetings until lunch and the farewell – then the buses left for Castel Bolognese and the FamTrips through the region.

9,000 km of cycle paths, dirt tracks and quiet roads between Piacenza and Cattolica – through the cities of art along the Via Emilia, vineyards, olive groves and orchards, the Apennines and 110 km of sandy beaches. A region where cycling is a way of life, from the Gran Fondo Nove Colli to the Grand Départ of the 2024 Tour de France.

Renaissance squares and ceramic workshops in Faenza, the Imola racetrack, medieval villages like Brisighella and Dozza – and Riolo Terme with its thermal springs, its fortress and the Vena del Gesso Romagnola park.
